Questo articolo è dunque un’introduzione alla Svezia e un riassunto di ciò che offre il sito Study in Sweden completo di link a pagine più specifiche.

Perché scegliere la Svezia?
Cosa ti viene in mente quando pensi alla Svezia? La maggior parte delle persone probabilmente pensa agli ABBA o all’IKEA. Sono risposte abbastanza buone, entrambe infatti rappresentano punti forti della Svezia. Si potrebbe dire così: IKEA rappresenta l’ingegno svedese e gli ABBA, logicamente, la sua presenza nell’industria musicale.
Molte sono le invenzioni svedesi: la chiave inglese regolabile, la cerniera moderna, il tetra-pak e persino alcuni salvavita come la cintura di sicurezza a tre punti e il pacemaker.
Un’altra famosa invenzione svedese è la dinamite, inventata da Alfred Nobel. Alfred Nobel lasciò gran parte della sua fortuna per l’istituizione di un premio. Voleva premiare le persone che maggiormente contribuiscono al bene dell’umanità nel campo della fisica, della chimica, della fisiologia o della medicina, della letteratura e della pace.
Conosciuto come premio Nobel è considerato uno dei premi più prestigiosi al mondo.
La Svezia è uno dei maggiori esportatori di musica del mondo in relazione alla propria economia. Oltre ai più famosi ABBA, alcuni artisti svedesi tra i più venduti sono i Roxette, gli Ace of Base e gli Europe. Altre superstar dei giorni nostri sono le musiciste Zara Larsson e Tove Lo e il disc-jockey Avicii.
Ma la cosa più sconosciuta è che la Svezia ha una grande presenza dietro le quinte dell’industria musicale con molti produttori e scrittori di successo. C’è Max Martin, Shellback e RedOne per nominarne solo alcuni. Hanno scritto collettivamente canzoni per artisti come Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga e molti altri. Se ti piace Eurovision potresti anche sapere che la Svezia l’ha vinto 6 volte, seconda solo all’Irlanda.

Una delle caratteristiche più attraenti della Svezia è la natura. La Svezia è il 5° Paese più grande d’Europa, ma con una popolazione di soli 10 milioni di abitanti è anche uno dei più scarsamente popolati. Ciò significa che c’è tantissima natura incontaminata da esplorare.
Inoltre è un Paese lungo con molti ambienti diversi. Pianure a sud, montagne innevate a nord, arcipelaghi a est e a ovest e una costa che sale di quasi 1 metro ogni 100 anni conosciuta come höga kusten (dal 2000 patrimonio dell’umanità dell’Unesco).
Più di 2/3 del Paese è coperto da boschi e ci sono quasi 100000 laghi.
In Svezia c’è qualcosa chiamato allemansrätten, la libertà di girovagare. Ciò significa che ti è permesso di andare quasi ovunque in natura senza bisogno di permessi, purché rispetti la natura e le persone. L’allemansrätten è anche la libeertà di raccogliere fiori e bacche o di campeggiare.
Queste sono solo alcune delle cose che rendono speciale la Svezia, ma ce ne sono molte altre. È un Paese che si sente sicuro e libero, dove tutti sono benvenuti, non solo per esistere, ma per essere ciò che vogliono essere. Andateci e provate voi stessi, potrebbe essere il Paese per voi.

Do you want to go to Sweden for university? Or maybe you’re just a bit curious and want to know more about the stoic country in the north. Perhaps you simply want to go abroad but don’t have a destination in mind and Sweden is indeed abroad! Luckily there is a website with all the information and links you could need if you wish to study there: Study in Sweden. If you have any thoughts or questions you can most likely find the answer to them there, all in English.
This post will be an introduction to Sweden and a summary of what the website has to offer complete with links to more specific pages both on the Study in Sweden website as well as other sites.
Why choose Sweden?
What comes to your mind when you think of Sweden? Most people would probably think of ABBA or IKEA.
These are quite good answers, they each represent some of Sweden’s strong points. You could put it like this: IKEA represents Sweden’s ingenuity and ABBA, logically, its presence in the music industry.
Many inventions have come from Swedes throughout the years: the adjustable wrench, the modern zipper, tetra-pak and even some life-saving ones like the three-point seatbelt and pacemaker. Another famous Swedish invention is dynamite which was invented by Alfred Nobel. When he died, he stated in his will that a large amount of his fortune be given to establish a prize that was to award the people that had greatest benefited mankind in the areas of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace. Known as the Nobel Prize, it is considered to be one of the most prestigious awards in the world.
Sweden is one of the world’s biggest music exporters relative to the size of its economy. The most famous musical act to come from Sweden would be ABBA but there are plenty more; Roxette, Ace of Base and Europe are some top-selling artists all from Sweden. There are more modern day superstars as well like Zara Larsson, Tove Lo and Avicii. What is more unknown though, is that Sweden has a big presence behind the scenes in the music industry with many successful producers and song writers. One of the most attractive points of Sweden is nature. Sweden is the 5th biggest country in Europe but with a population of only 10 million, it is also one of the most scarcely populated. This means that there are tonnes of unspoiled nature to explore. It’s a long country with a lot of variation. Plains in the south, snow covered mountains in the north, archipelagos both in the east and west and a coastline that’s rising by almost 1m per 100 years known as höga kusten. The most prominent features of the Swedish landscape are the forests and lakes. More than 2/3 of the country is covered with forest and there are almost 100000 lakes.
In Sweden there is something called allemansrätten, the freedom to roam. This means that you are allowed to be almost anywhere in nature without needing any permission as long as you respect the nature and other people. Other than just spending time in nature it also includes being allowed to pick flowers and berries or even going camping.
These are a few things that make Sweden special but there are many more. It’s a country that feels safe and free, where everyone is welcome, not just to exist, but to be who they want to be. Go there and experience it yourself, it might be the country for you.

During the month of May 2019, I did an internship at Informagiovani in Brescia and was tasked with writing a post about studying in my home country. There is much more I could say about Sweden and would have liked to put in the post but unfortunately the time ran out and this is the result I ended up with. Hopefully at least one person will find this post interesting or helpful and maybe it can even lead someone to eventually go to this great country. It’s the best!
